Rachel Desfeux was born in Saint-Hilaire du Harcouët (Normandy-France) in 1969. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Caen in 1994 under the supervision of Professor B. Raveau in the field of Materials Science: Growth and Characterization of High Tc Superconducting Thin Films.
As a post-doctoral position, he spent one year about (1994-1995) in the Solid State Physics Laboratory of the University of Rome «Tor Vergata» (Italy), working on the Synthesis of Novel Superconductors in Thin Films under the supervision of Professor G. Balestrino.
Then, He obtained a Teacher/Researcher position from the University of Caen (1995-1996). In 1996, september, he was promoted Associate Professor at the University of Artois and joined the Laboratory of Physics/Chemistry of Interfaces and Applications, which became the Unit of Catalyst and Solid Chemistry from 2008. His research activities cover the field of growth and characterization of microstructure, surface morphology and physical properties of thin films with specific properties (magnetic, piezo/ferro-electric…), keeping in mind their integration in devices. His work specially involves micro- and nanoscale investigations using various techniques of Scanning Probe Microscopy (AFM, MFM, PFM, piezoloops…). In 2003, he received his Habilitation. Then, in 2008, he was promoted Full Professor.
